Trafficking of Persons(Prevention, Protection & Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018 has been recently cleared by the parliament. Let's have a look at a few important points in the bill:
- 10 years to life imprisonment for aggravated forms of trafficking which include buying and selling of persons for the purpose of bonded labour, bearing a child, as well as those where chemical substances are administered, and the survivor acquires life-threatening illnesses such as AIDS.
- National Anti Trafficking Beaureu (NATB) will be established for coordinating and monitoring of such cases where trafficking is involved.
- It also provides for the allocation of ₹10 crores for a Relief and Rehabilitation Committee and Rehabiltaion Fund.
- The bill also prescribes for the forfeiture of the property used or likely to be used for the offense.
