  • The President appoints a member of the Lok Sabha as the Speaker Pro Tem. Usually, the seniormost member is selected for this. The President himself administers the oath to the Speaker Pro Tem. Office of Speaker Protem is temporary, existing for a few days.
  • Speaker Pro Tem has all the powers of the Speaker.
  • In case of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Goa, the minimum number is fixed at 30 and in case of Mizoram and Nagaland, it is 40 and 46 respectively. In all other states, the minimum is 60 and the maximum is 500.
  • The District Judge is the highest judicial authority in the district. He possesses original and appellate jurisdiction in both civil as well as criminal matters. The district judge exercises both judicial and administrative powers. He also has supervisory powers over all the subordinate courts in the district. Appeals against his orders and judgments lie to the High Court.
  • The Sessions Judge has the power to impose any sentence including life imprisonment and capital punishment (death sentence). However,a capital punishment passed by him is subject to confirmation by the High Court, whether there is an appeal or not.
  • No demand for a grant shall be made except on the recommendation of the President.
  • No money bill imposing tax shall be introduced in the Parliament except on the recommendation of the President, and such a bill shall not be introduced in the Rajya Sabha.
  • Indian President has a bigger pocket - American President does not enjoy pocket veto, i.e. he cannot simply keep the bill pending for an indefinite period, while Indian President can.
