Wildlife sanctuaries in Andhra Pradesh:

  • Kambalakonda Wildlife sanctuary - Vishakapatanam, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is housed in this
  • Papikonda Wildlife sanctuary - East Godavari district.
  • Coringa Wildlife sanctuary - East Godavari district.
  • Krishna Wildlife sanctuary - Krishna district.
  • Rollapadu Wildlife sanctuary - Kurnool district. It is the only habitat in the state for the Great Indian Bustard.
  • Penusila(penchala) Narasimha Wildlife sanctuary - Nellore district.
  • Gundla Brahmeshra Wildlife sanctuary - Kurnool district.
  • Sri Lankamalleshwara Wildlife sanctuary - Kadapa district.
  • Kaundinya Wildlife sanctuary - Chittoor district.
  • Sri Venkateshwara Wildlife sanctuary - Kadapa district.


Bird sanctuaries in Andhra Pradesh:

  • Atapaka Bird sanctuary ( Kolleru Bird sanctuary ) - Near Kolleru freshwater lake in the West Godavari district. It is recognized as Ramsar Wetland.
  • Telineelapuram and Telukanchi Bird sanctuary - Srikakulam. Pelicans migrate here every year from Siberia.
  • Neelapattu Bird sanctuary - Nellore district
  • Pulicat Bird sanctuary - Near Pulicat Lake in Nellore district. It is the 2nd largest brackish water lake in India.

National Parks in Andhra Pradesh:

  • Sri Venkateshwara National Park, Tirupati.
  • Rajiv Gandhi National Park, Proddutur.
  • Papi Konda National Park, East & West Godavari districts.

Some other minor geographic features of Andhra Pradesh:


  • Estuaries of Krishna and Godavari support rich Mangroves.
  • Lambasingi in Vishakapatanam is the only place in south India with snowfall. It is also known as Andhra Kashmir.
  • Andhra Pradesh receives maximum rainfall from NE Monsoons and October - November experiences a low-pressure system of & tropical cyclones.
  • Due to the long coastline winter are warmer than in the interior.
