- Preceded by Association of South East Asia formed in 1961.
- Present members are : Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
- Observer states are : Papua New Guinea, and Timor Leste.
